KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) is holding a meeting of its Central Working Committee (CWC) today (Sunday).
Party General Secretary Uday Shumsher Rana said the meeting would discuss several issues, including police raids on media houses and the detention of journalists, the division of responsibilities among party office-bearers and Central Working Committee members, and the parallel general convention being organised by the faction led by former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba.
The party is expected to take an official position on the police action against media houses, where journalists were reportedly detained in connection with news gathering and publication. The Nepali Congress has already condemned the incident and plans to make an institutional decision on the matter during Sunday’s meeting.
The meeting will also finalise the division of responsibilities among office-bearers and Central Working Committee members elected at the party’s 15th General Convention held last Asoj.
Meanwhile, the Deuba-led faction has accelerated preparations for the party’s 15th General Convention by moving ahead with its subordinate-level conventions.
The Central Working Committee is also expected to discuss the faction’s parallel convention activities and decide the party’s position on the matter.
