TANAHUN: Floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall have damaged seven suspension bridges and a Bailey bridge in Ghiring Rural Municipality of Tanahun, while the Bhimad–Rampur road section has also been affected.
A team from the District Security Committee inspected the damage at various locations of the rural municipality on Wednesday. The team, led by Chief District Officer Shivlal Tiwari, included District Police Office, Tanahun Chief Superintendent of Police Tek Bahadur Karki and Ghiring Rural Municipality Chairman Hom Bahadur Thapa.
The damage to the bridges and roads has disrupted the movement of local residents. In particular, the destruction of suspension bridges has affected connectivity between different settlements, while damage to the Bailey bridge and roads has created additional difficulties for transportation.
The inspection team assessed the condition of the damaged infrastructure and gathered information on the coordination required for immediate management and reconstruction.
Survey conducted on flood-damaged Ghiring–Dedhagaun bridge
An on-site inspection and measurement of the bridge connecting Ghiring Rural Municipality with Dedhagaun of Boudikali Rural Municipality in Nawalpur has also been completed.
The severe flooding in the Kaligandaki River washed away the bridge’s access road, completely disrupting transportation along the route and creating difficulties for local residents.
A technical team from the Road Division Office, Damauli, conducted the inspection and measurement in coordination with Ghiring Rural Municipality. According to the rural municipality, the team assessed the condition of the damaged bridge and collected necessary details in the presence of security personnel and local representatives.
Ghiring Rural Municipality Vice-Chairperson Radhadevi Adhikari expressed confidence that alternative arrangements would be made and reconstruction work would begin promptly after completion of the technical survey.
