KATHMANDU: Special attention is being given to the health and safety of women and girls displaced by the devastating floods, with essential health services, dignity kits, psychosocial counselling and other support being provided in the affected areas.
Volunteers from the Nepal Red Cross Society, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), have continued distributing essential supplies to survivors of the devastating floods that struck the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers on the morning of Bhadra 10.
Under the Emergency Preparedness and Response Project, dignity kits are being distributed to women who have lost their homes and family members, while adolescent girls are receiving adolescent kits and tarpaulins. Health camps are also being organised in the affected areas to address their health needs.
According to UNFPA, 2,000 dignity kits, 400 adolescent kits and 3,000 tarpaulins have been distributed so far. Health camp services, including essential healthcare, psychosocial counselling, and sexual and reproductive health services, are also continuing.
UNFPA said the services are being provided based on the daily needs of women and adolescents living in various temporary shelters in Nuwakot.
Dignity kits have been distributed to affected women and adolescents staying at temporary shelters in the Kakani-Kispang area, Tribhuvan Secondary School in Bidur, Battar Tamang Plaza and the Community Multipurpose Building in Bidur.
The Nepal Red Cross Society said preparations are under way to distribute dignity kits to affected women and adolescents in Dhading and Rasuwa as well.
