KATHMANDU: The bodies of 939 people swept away by the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa on August 26 have been recovered as of Monday evening, while 3,925 people remain missing. The search operation is continuing.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), the flood has affected Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Nawalparasi East, Nawalparasi West, Tanahun and Chitwan districts.
Of the bodies recovered, 23 were found in Rasuwa, 95 in Nuwakot, 55 in Dhading, 65 in Gorkha, 216 in Nawalparasi East, 168 in Nawalparasi West, 38 in Tanahun and 279 in Chitwan, according to the authority.
NDRRMA spokesperson Shanti Mahat said 11,379 people had been rescued from the flood-affected areas by Monday evening. Alongside the rescue efforts, the search for people who remain unaccounted for has also been intensified.
The Nepali Army (NA) alone has airlifted 3,404 Nepali nationals and 253 foreign nationals from the affected areas. It has so far conducted 499 flights as part of search and rescue operations. On Monday alone, the army conducted 88 flights, while private helicopters conducted 29 flights, according to the Nepal Army.
A total of 21,080 security personnel have been mobilised for search and rescue operations in the affected areas, including 7,909 from Nepal Police, 8,896 from the Nepali Army and 4,203 from the Armed Police Force Nepal.
Meanwhile, NDRRMA said efforts to deliver food, non-food items, medicines and health supplies to flood-affected people are continuing.
