6-year-old girl found dead near riverbank in Kailali after going missing from school



KATHMANDU: A six-year-old girl who went missing from school in Kailali has been found dead near a riverbank, police said on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Manisha BK, a resident of Lamkichuha Municipality-4.

According to the District Police Office, Kailali, the girl was found dead on the bank of the Rora River in Lamkichuha Municipality-5.

Manisha, a nursery student at Janachetana Primary School, was taken to school by her grandmother at around 7 am on Tuesday.

Although the school was scheduled to close at 11 am, it was reportedly dismissed early at around 9 am due to special circumstances.

When her grandmother arrived at the school at the usual time of 11 am to pick her up, the child was missing. Following the discovery that she was unaccounted for, her family launched a search, with police and local residents also joining the efforts.

Police spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police Yogendra Timsina said the body was recovered on Wednesday at Chauree in Lamkichuha Municipality-5, along the banks of the Rora River.

Police said the cause of death has not yet been determined and an investigation is underway.
