Around 210,000 metric tonnes of fertilizer to be imported by mid-August

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Environment has made preparations to import around 210,000 metric tonnes of chemical fertilizer by mid-August.

The ministry has initiated the import process through multiple channels to ensure adequate supply of fertilizer required for paddy cultivation.

Under a government-to-government (G2G) agreement with India, 30,000 metric tonnes of urea is expected to arrive in Nepal in the first week of August.

Out of the 180,000 metric tonnes of chemical fertilizer to be imported through global tenders from various countries, 60,000 metric tonnes is DAP and 120,000 metric tonnes is urea, the ministry said.

The ministry said it has set a target to import the highest volume of chemical fertilizer so far this year.

It has also arranged a complaint mechanism through hotline number 9700099113 and a QR code, available from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, to report incidents of black marketing or irregularities in fertilizer distribution at the local level.
