KATHMANDU: Germany has rejected what it described as false or misleading reports regarding Nepal’s passport procurement issue, clarifying that it has not warned Nepal about any possible consequences linked to the case.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the German Embassy in Kathmandu outlined three key facts to address misinformation surrounding the issue.
First, it said Nepal’s Chargé d’Affaires in Berlin was invited to a meeting at the German Federal Foreign Office, not summoned, stressing that while the distinction may appear minor, it carries significant meaning in diplomatic practice.
Second, the embassy clarified that no protest note or any other official document was handed over during the meeting.
Third, it said no warning was given to Nepal about possible consequences depending on the outcome of the ongoing proceedings.
The embassy also reiterated that Germany fully respects the independence of the judiciary, noting that judicial independence is a principle enshrined in the country’s Constitution.
“As a matter of principle, the Embassy does not comment on ongoing court proceedings, and we have not done so at any point in this case,” the statement said.
