Fog blankets parts of Terai as westerly system affects weather

KATHMANDU: Weather conditions across Nepal are being shaped by the partial influence of westerly winds, with fog affecting parts of the Terai and cloud cover increasing in the hills and mountains.

The Weather Forecasting Division has warned of a chance of light rain and snowfall in a few high-altitude areas, while urging caution due to reduced visibility in the plains.

According to the Division, fog has formed in some areas of the Terai region of Sudurpaschim Province, while partial cloud cover prevails in Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as in the mountainous areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim. The weather remains generally clear in other parts of the country.

This afternoon, fog is expected to persist in some parts of the Terai. The hilly and mountainous regions of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces are likely to remain generally cloudy, while other hilly areas, including those in Koshi Province, will see partial cloud cover.

The rest of the country is expected to remain mostly clear. There is a possibility of light rain or snowfall at one or two places in the high hilly and mountainous areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Tonight, fog may again occur in some parts of the Terai. The hilly and mountainous regions of Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces are likely to remain generally cloudy, while other areas will see mostly clear conditions. Light rain or snowfall is possible at one or two places in the high hilly and mountainous regions of Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

The Division has urged the public to take necessary precautions, noting that fog in the Terai is likely to partially affect daily life, tourism, health, and air and road transportation, particularly during the morning hours.
