President Paudel leaving for Japan today



KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel will pay an official visit to Japan from today (Sunday) at the invitation of the Government of Japan, marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

President Paudel will lead a Nepali delegation and depart for Japan at 11:30 pm on Sunday aboard Nepal Airlines flight No. 433, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai said. He is scheduled to return on February 4 at 4:30 pm on Nepal Airlines flight No. 434.

During the visit, President Paudel will attend a special reception hosted by the Japan government on February 2 to commemorate 70 years of Nepal–Japan diplomatic relations. On February 3, he will pay a state courtesy call on Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.

On the same day, President Paudel is also scheduled to meet Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. In addition, Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs Horie Iwao will pay a courtesy call on the President.

The President will also interact with members of the Japanese business community and attend a reception organized in his honor by the Nepali Embassy in Japan. He will be accompanied by his spouse, Sabita Poudel, and senior government officials throughout the visit.

Nepal–Japan relations

Nepal–Japan relations date back to the late 18th century and were formally established on September 1, 1956. Since then, bilateral ties have been marked by friendship, goodwill, and cooperation. Nepal opened its embassy in Tokyo in 1965, while Japan established its embassy in Kathmandu in 1967. Nepal also maintains an Honorary Consulate in Osaka.
