Journalists allegedly mistreated while reporting at The British College

KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), has expressed serious objection to the alleged mistreatment of journalists by The British College in Thapathali.

According to a press statement issued by the organization, journalists Samir Joshi of Nepal Lead.com and cameraman Amrit Bhatta were allegedly mistreated by security guards while collecting news related to claims that the college charged students hefty fees and sent them to Dubai as workers.

The statement, issued by branch chair Niraj Khatiwada, said the journalists were surrounded by security personnel, prevented from leaving the college premises, and obstructed from carrying out news reporting. The organization expressed serious concern over the incident and demanded immediate action against those involved in obstructing journalistic work and engaging in misconduct.

Meanwhile, The British College’s Marketing Head Amardeep Mandal said the incident may have occurred as the college was closed on the occasion of the English New Year, making it impossible for journalists to meet concerned officials. He said the security guards may have stopped them for this reason.
