Over one million foreign tourists visited Nepal in a year

KATHMANDU: More than one million foreign tourists entered Nepal in a single year, according to data from the Department of Immigration.

Immigration records show that 1,015,378 foreign tourists arrived in Nepal in 2015, while 982,561 foreign nationals departed the country during the same period.

Most foreign nationals visit Nepal primarily for tourism purposes. The Department of Immigration issues 10 different types of visas to foreign citizens, including tourist, labor, and study visas, among others.

Meanwhile, the data also shows a significant outflow of Nepali citizens. In the same year, more than 1.5 million Nepalis traveled abroad, mainly for foreign employment and education.

The figures highlight Nepal’s continued appeal as a tourist destination, even as overseas migration by Nepali citizens remains high due to work and study opportunities abroad.
