Kathmandu’s minimum temperature drops to 5 degrees Celsius

KATHMANDU: The minimum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley has fallen to 5 degrees Celsius in the first measurement of the day.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the minimum temperature in Kathmandu was 5.0 degrees Celsius at 5:45 am today (Thursday). This compares to 5.1 degrees Celsius at the same time yesterday (Wednesday) and 5.2 degrees Celsius the previous Tuesday.

However, when measured again at 8:45 am yesterday, the temperature in Kathmandu had dropped further to 4.9 degrees Celsius, which is recorded as the official minimum for the day. Today, the final minimum will also be measured at 8:45 am, and it is expected to be lower than the 5:45 am reading.

Meteorologists note that clear skies at night typically lead to lower morning temperatures, while cloudy nights result in higher minimums. Similarly, a clear afternoon increases the maximum temperature, while cloudy conditions reduce it.

The Division records daily minimum and maximum temperatures across the country, including Kathmandu, with the minimum measured at 8:45 am and the maximum at 5:45 pm.
