Court orders detention of Former Minister Gupta in bribery case

KATHMANDU: The Special Court has ordered former Minister for Land Reform Rajkumar Gupta to be sent to judicial custody for trial in a bribery case.

Based on the evidence obtained so far, the court issued a detention warrant in accordance with the Special Court Rules, 2080, and directed that Gupta be sent to the concerned prison office.

A bench comprising judges Sudarshan Dev Bhatt, Dilli Ratna Shrestha, and Bidur Koirala found the evidence presented by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) and the Office of the Special Government Prosecutor to be prima facie credible. The evidence includes forensic analysis of audio recordings, bank statements, phone call records, SMS messages, and photographs.

According to the charges, Gupta is accused of accepting bribes in connection with appointments and transfers, in violation of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2002. Gupta has denied the allegations, claiming that the complaint and audio recordings are false.
