RSP gives ticket to Dr. Lekhjung Thapa for Rupandehi-3 by-election



KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has finalized its candidate for the Rupandehi-3 by-election.

The party’s secretariat meeting on Sunday at its Baneshwori office selected one candidate from nine aspirants. Acting Chair DP Aryal confirmed that Dr. Lekhjung Thapa has been nominated for the by-election scheduled for November 1.

Earlier in the day, the aspirants visited Chair Rabi Lamichhane at Nakhu prison, where he advised them to support the chosen candidate and not hold grievances. Following the secretariat meeting and discussions with Lamichhane, Dr. Thapa’s candidacy was officially announced.

RSP had invited applications for Rupandehi-3 until July 21, receiving nine applications in total. Lumbini in-charge Bipin Acharya stated that the candidate selection followed a fully democratic process. All aspirants had pledged to accept the party’s decision on November 1 without objection.

About Dr. Thapa

Dr. Thapa, born in Anchhalapur, Rupandehi,  is a neurologist and the eighth child of the Thapa family. His father was a judge. He entered politics three years ago.

The nine aspirants who applied for the Rupandehi-3 candidacy were: Sulabh Kharel, Parthivendra Upadhyay, Dr. Lekhjung Thapa, Gyanu Paudel, Jeet Bahadur Gupta, Kusum Maharjan, Rachana Chhetri, Poonam Kumari Agrawal, and Madhuprasad Aryal. The party had set an application fee of Rs. 25,000 for aspirants.
