Home Minister Lekhak directs coordinated effort to curb illegal trade



BIRGUNJ: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has instructed all relevant agencies to work in coordination to curb the illegal import and export of goods through border checkpoints.

Speaking at a meeting of the Revenue Leakage Control Coordination Committee held at the District Administration Office, Parsa, today, Minister Lekhak emphasized the need for strong collaboration among local administration, customs offices, and the three security agencies to effectively combat smuggling.

“I urge all concerned bodies to coordinate closely to control revenue leakage and take necessary steps to curb other criminal activities occurring in border areas,” said Lekhak.

Chief Customs Administrator of the Birgunj Customs Office, Bishnu Prasad Gyawali, shared that revenue collection at the office had increased in the last fiscal year compared to the previous one. He expressed optimism that the office would meet its revenue target for the current fiscal year, noting that effective control of smuggling would require joint efforts from all stakeholders.

Chief of the Revenue Investigation Office in Pathlaiya, Hari Prasad Sharma, Madhes Province Nepal Police Chief, the Chief District Officer of Parsa, Toya Narayan Subedi, and Uma Prasad Chaturvedi also shared their views during the meeting.
