Bidya Bhandari intensifies UML outreach despite party tensions

KATHMANDU: Despite obstruction from CPN-UML Chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has resumed active politics with the UML and is currently visiting Madhesh Province to strengthen ties with party leaders and activists.

She arrived in Birgunj, Parsa, on Saturday morning for a program and has since been meeting with UML cadres throughout her visit.

According to UML-affiliated student leader Prakash Poudel, Bhandari is scheduled to spend the entire day in Bara, engaging in discussions with party leaders and grassroots activists.

Earlier on Saturday, she visited the Gadhimai Temple in Bara, where locals—including Mahagadhimai Municipality Mayor Upendra Yadav—welcomed her warmly.

Although her party membership was officially revoked by KP Sharma Oli, Bhandari remains politically active. After the UML closed her office, she intensified her efforts by opening a liaison office in Thapagaun, Kathmandu, on August 21.

Upon arriving at Simara Airport in Bara, while traveling from Kathmandu to Birgunj, Bhandari was greeted with a 55-kilogram garland presented by UML leaders and activists.
