Landslide blocks Karnali Highway and Dehimadau-Giregada road

JUMLA: The Karnali Highway was blocked last night due to a landslide in Gaganekhola, Kalikot. Jumla Road Division Office Chief Dipendra Kumar Chaudhary informed that incessant rain caused the landslide in the area, which falls under the division’s jurisdiction.

He added that the public has been advised through notices to exercise caution while traveling during the rainy season and to avoid traveling at night.

Similarly, the Dehimadau-Giregada road in Baitadi has been blocked by a landslide caused by heavy rainfall. The blockage occurred near Sundarkhali, Dasharathchand Municipality-2, on that road section.

Efforts are underway to clear the road; however, large stones brought down by the landslide are complicating the process, according to Baitadi Police Spokesperson Balram Pandey.

He said, “Although the JCV tried to clear the landslide until last night, it was not possible due to the size of the stones.” He added that excavators will be used today to remove the debris and reopen the road.

Gaura Parba is being celebrated today across the Sudurpaschim Province, including Baitadi. The road blockage has caused a complete halt in vehicle movement, leaving travelers returning home for Gaura stranded. Police have stated that traffic will resume only after the landslide debris is fully cleared, which may take some time.
