Over 3,200 disaster incidents reported since April



KATHMANDU: Nepal recorded a total of 3,281 disaster incidents, resulting in 207 deaths from April 15 to August 30, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).

In addition to the fatalities, 22 individuals remain missing and 774 have been injured, while 5,963 families have been directly affected by these disasters.

Fires were the most frequent disaster, with 1,197 reported cases, leading to 15 deaths and 165 injuries. Floods were the second most damaging, causing 27 deaths, 22 missing persons, and affecting 1,778 families across 243 incidents. Landslides occurred in 368 locations, killing 18 people, injuring 28, and affecting 481 families.

Heavy rainfall was reported in 266 cases, resulting in six deaths, 12 injuries, and impact on 11 families. Lightning strikes claimed 31 lives and injured 193 people in 258 incidents, affecting 317 families. Meanwhile, 268 snakebite cases caused 72 deaths and 202 injuries, with 272 families affected.

Forest fires (158 incidents) led to two injuries and affected 27 families. Windstorms were recorded 280 times, resulting in eight deaths, 41 injuries, and impact on 536 families.

Other recorded incidents included animal attacks (15 deaths), drownings (49 cases), earthquakes (5), boat capsizes (2), as well as one hailstorm and one epidemic.

The Authority has called on the public to remain vigilant and has assured that necessary preparedness measures are in place to respond to ongoing and future disaster risks.
