Muslim community celebrates Eid-ul-Fitr with prayers and festivities

The Muslim community in Kathmandu celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr today, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The festival, observed on the last day of Ramadan according to the Hijri calendar, was celebrated with prayers, gatherings, new clothes, and the exchange of sweets.

In Kathmandu, large congregations gathered at the Kashmiri Jama Masjid in Ghantaghar and other mosques across the country to offer prayers. Devotees embraced each other and exchanged warm greetings, symbolizing unity and joy.

PM Oli blames former King Gyanendra for Tinkune violence

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has held former King Gyanendra Shah responsible for the violence, arson, and looting that took place in the Tinkune area on March 28.

Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Monday, Oli said that the former king should take full responsibility for the incidents that occurred during the demonstration led by the Joint People’s Movement Committee, which advocates for the restoration of the monarchy.

“No one involved in criminal acts is immune. Shouldn’t those who claim to restore the monarchy and disrupt the system make their views public on these incidents?” Oli questioned.

PM Oli vows action against those involved in Tinkune incident

Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli has assured that those responsible for the Tinkune incident will be held accountable.

Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Monday, he condemned the events that took place, calling them both regrettable and unacceptable.

“These actions are entirely condemnable and regrettable,” Prime Minister Oli stated.

Rabi Lamichhane rings bell as he returns to party leadership

Rabi Lamichhane has officially resumed his role as chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) after more than five months.

On Monday, Lamichhane held a press conference at the party’s central office in Chaumati, ringing the bell at the office entrance to mark his return.

Following the press meet, he participated in the party’s central committee meeting.

Rabi Lamichhane: Public outrage isn’t for the King’s return, it’s the result of republican leaders’ misdeeds

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has claimed that the growing public anger on the streets is not about reinstating the monarchy but rather a reaction to the failures of republican leaders.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Lamichhane asserted that the government’s actions have fueled public outrage.

“This government couldn’t control just 4,000 people on the streets. The protests are not in favor of the king, they are the result of the major parties’ wrongdoings. This won’t last long,” he said.

Rabi Lamichhane: Surviving the alleged govt. conspiracy is my victory

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has claimed that surviving the alleged government conspiracy against him is a victory in itself.

Speaking at a press conference before the party’s central committee meeting on Monday, Lamichhane said, “The government’s conspiracies have not ended. I am ready to be weighed on any scale. They have misinterpreted the court’s ruling. A two-thirds majority government has left me alive, this itself is my victory.”

He further declared that he would continue his political fight against corruption, stating, “They may have thought I would be afraid, but I will fight. I will not stand idly by and watch this loot system. If they want to file more cases against me, let them.”

Nepali Congress-aligned NSU’s Joshi wins TU central campus student union election

Deepak Raj Joshi of the Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) has been elected president of the Free Student Union (FSU) at Tribhuvan University Central Campus.

Joshi secured 789 votes, narrowly defeating Siddhant Bhatt of the UML-affiliated ANNFSU by 8 votes. Bhatt received 781 votes.

The student union election was held on Monday using electronic voting machines, allowing for a swift result announcement.

Govt. will provide necessary support to family of Rajak, says PM Oli

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said the government would provide necessary support to the family of journalist Suresh Rajak, who was killed in Tinkune incident on March 28.

During the meeting held at the official residence of the Prime Minister at Baluwatar on Monday, Prime Minister Oli urged the family members to perform last rites of Rajak, adding the government would pay attention to make necessary arrangement for Rajak’s widow employment.

Paying tribute towards journalist Rajak who lost his life in the fire incident occurred in Tinkune in course of demonstration by the royalists, the Prime Minister expressed condolences to the bereaved family members.

Police allege RPP leaders attempted to seize parliament building

The Nepal Police have accused Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) leaders of attempting to seize the Parliament building during last Friday’s violent pro-monarchy protest in Kathmandu.

In a letter to Speaker Devraj Ghimire, police stated that RPP General Secretary and MP Dr. Dhawal Shamsher Rana, along with Rabindra Mishra and Durga Prasai, incited protesters to move beyond their scheduled rally point and storm key government institutions.

According to the letter, the leaders urged demonstrators to “march toward the Parliament building and other vital state institutions to overthrow the republican structure and restore the monarchy.”

RSP absent from PM Oli’s all-party meeting, sparks controversy

Following chaotic pro-monarchy protests, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli convened a meeting of pro-republican parties at Singha Durbar on Sunday, but the absence of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has sparked controversy.

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and RPP Nepal, which advocate for a return to monarchy, were not invited. However, the Prime Minister’s secretariat claimed that all other parties, including the RSP, were invited.

Chairs with nameplates were arranged for all major republican parties, including the RSP, with a seat designated between CPN-UML’s senior vice-chair Ishwar Pokhrel and Janata Samajwadi Party’s chair Ashok Rai. Despite this, no RSP representatives attended the meeting.

House informed about arrest of RPP MP Dhawal Shamsher Rana

The House of Representatives has been formally informed about the arrest of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Dhawal Shamsher Rana on charges of a crime against the state.

Speaker Devraj Ghimire, addressing the House on Monday, stated that a letter from the District Police Complex confirmed Jabra’s arrest from Satdobato.

He has been detained, and further investigations are underway. The information was shared in accordance with Sub-rule 1 of Rule 48 of the House of Representatives Rules, 2023.

PM Oli pays tribute to Kamal Koirala at Unified Socialist office

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has paid tribute to the late leader and writer Kamal Koirala at the office of the Unified Socialist Party in Aloknagar.

Oli honored Koirala, a prominent leftist leader and writer, at the party office of the CPN (Unified Socialist), which was formed in 2021 after splitting from the UML. Koirala served as the party’s central advisor.

Unified Socialist Party Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal was also present during Oli’s visit. This marks the first time Oli has stepped into the Unified Socialist Party’s office since the split in 2021.

PM Oli announces first official visit to Thailand in 65 years

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced his upcoming official visit to Thailand and participation in the BIMSTEC Summit, marking the first official visit of a Nepali Prime Minister to Thailand in 65 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In his address to the House of Representatives on Monday, Prime Minister Oli confirmed that his visit would take place from April 1, highlighting its significance as the first such visit after over six decades.

He highlighted that Thailand, especially its capital Bangkok, serves as a vital gateway for Nepali citizens traveling to countries beyond their immediate neighbors.

11 more arrested for arson and vandalism in Tinkune

Nepal Police have arrested 11 more individuals accused of involvement in arson and vandalism in the Tinkune area on March 28.

According to police, the suspects were detained under charges related to offenses against the state and organized crime.

Additionally, authorities have apprehended a total of 41 individuals on charges of criminal disturbance and organized crime.

HoR informed about five bills endorsed by NA

The House of Representatives has been informed about five different replacement bills endorsed by the National Assembly today.

HoR Secretary Harka Raj Rai informed the lower house about the message sent by the National Assembly regarding the passage of five bills that originated in the HoR.  The NA passed the bills without amendment.

The message sent by the NA regarding the bills—Bill designed to amend some Nepal Acts related to Promotion of Good Governance and Delivery of Public Services, 2081, Bill designed to amend some Nepal Acts related to Cooperatives, 2081, Bill related to Economic Procedures and Fiscal Responsibility (First Amendment), 2081, Privatization Bill  (First Amendment), 2081 and Bill designed to amend some Nepal Acts relating to Improving Economic and Business Environment and Promoting Investment, 2081, was tabled in the meeting.
