Kathmandu’s minimum temperature drops to 3.5°C

KATHMANDU: The minimum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley has declined for the second consecutive day.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the minimum temperature in Kathmandu was recorded at 3.5 degrees Celsius at 5:45 am on Monday. On Sunday, the temperature stood at 4.5 degrees Celsius at the same time, later dipping slightly to 4.2 degrees Celsius at 8:45 am.

The Division noted that the day’s official minimum temperature is determined at 8:45 am, and there remains a possibility that Monday’s minimum could fall further before the final reading.

On Saturday, Kathmandu’s minimum temperature was 5.5 degrees Celsius, indicating a steady decline over the past two days.

The Division records minimum and maximum temperatures across the country daily. The minimum temperature is measured at 8:45 am, while the maximum temperature is recorded at 5:45 pm.

Meteorologists explain that clear skies at night allow heat to escape, leading to lower morning temperatures, whereas cloud cover helps retain heat, resulting in relatively higher minimum temperatures. Conversely, during the daytime, cloudy conditions tend to lower maximum temperatures by blocking sunlight, while clear skies allow temperatures to rise.
