Nepali Congress-aligned NSU’s Joshi wins TU central campus student union election

KATHMANDU: Deepak Raj Joshi of the Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) has been elected president of the Free Student Union (FSU) at Tribhuvan University Central Campus.

Joshi secured 789 votes, narrowly defeating Siddhant Bhatt of the UML-affiliated ANNFSU by 8 votes. Bhatt received 781 votes.

The student union election was held on Monday using electronic voting machines, allowing for a swift result announcement.

Earlier, the election had been delayed due to a legal dispute. However, after the Patan High Court ruled that the interim order to halt the election was unnecessary, voting proceeded as scheduled.

Out of more than 6,000 registered student voters, only about half participated in the election.

Final Results:
NSU (Deepak Raj Joshi) – 789 votes
ANNFSU (Siddhant Bhatt) – 781 votes
ANNFSU-Revolutionary (Prabin Dahal) – 727 votes
Independent (Padma Bhusal) – 166 votes
Independent (Ujjwal Khadka) – 717 votes
