PM Oli to address HoR over Kulman Ghising’s dismissal

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli is scheduled to address Parliament today (March 31) to resolve the ongoing obstruction following the government’s decision to remove Kulman Ghising from his position as Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority.

During a discussion on Friday with Speaker Devraj Ghimire, opposition leaders, and chief whips of the ruling parties, an agreement was reached for PM Oli to clarify the reasons behind Ghising’s dismissal.

The Cabinet had decided last Monday to remove Ghising from his role at the state-run power utility, a move that prompted opposition parties to disrupt parliamentary proceedings, causing a deadlock.

The opposition has insisted that they will only lift the obstruction if the Prime Minister provides a satisfactory explanation.

While the government initially suggested that the concerned minister or Deputy Prime Minister respond, opposition leaders refused, demanding a direct statement from the Prime Minister.

Following the meeting, CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula informed the media that an agreement had been reached for the Prime Minister to address the House of Representatives on March 31.
