E-payments mandatory for fiscal good governance: Finance Minister



LALITPUR: Finance Minister Rameshore Prasad Khanal has said that the government has made it mandatory for all payments to be made through electronic systems to maintain good financial governance.

Speaking at a policy dialogue on ‘Financial Reform and Budget Priorities for Reconstruction and Economic Revival’ organized by the Former Planners Forum Nepal (FPFN) here today, he said the government has eased the online system at the Internal Revenue Office and is working to connect the tax system with the local level.

Finance Minister Khanal informed that more than Rs 30 billion has been kept in reserve for the federal, provincial and local governments to carry out the work of reconstruction.

At the event, Economist Dr Kusum Shakya emphasized the need to focus on the goal of bring about economic revival, as the political changes after the GenZ movement have had a major impact on the economy.

Former Vice Chair of the National Planning Commission, Dr Govinda Raj Pokharel, pointed out the need to focus on good economic governance by managing bureaucracy as an important aspect of the development process.

At the program, former member of the National Planning Commission Dr Dilli Raj Khanal presented a working paper focusing on the weaknesses in Nepal’s financial system and the areas that need improvement.
