East-West Highway section not yet open for traffic

RAUTAHAT: The East-West Mahendra Highway that has been obstructed since 7.30 this morning is yet to resume.

The obstruction has been caused when a bullet carrying LP Gas met with an accident nearby Lamaha Bridge on the Chandranigahapur-Dhansar road in Rautahat along the Mahendra Highway.

A tanker (UP 17 A T 2114) carrying LPG gas from Raxaul, India, heading towards Mahendranagar in Dhanusha, met with the accident this morning.

Although efforts have been made to clear the blocked highway since early morning, it could not be opened due to technical reasons, according to Rupa Labung, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Chandranighapur Police Office.

Since 9.00 am, technical teams from the Gas Company and the Nepal Oil Corporation’s Birgunj branch have been putting efforts to remove the tanker, but it will still take some time, informed Deputy Superintendent Labung.

Six cranes have been mobilized to remove the gas tanker. She said that problems arose when technicians could not prevent gas leakage from the tanker after the accident.

Tanker driver, Pawan Yadav, 35, from Jaynagar Police Station in Kadora District, India, was injured in the accident.

Currently, vehicles coming from the east are stranded in Chandranigahpur while some vehicles are taking alternative Dhansar’s route about 35 kilometers long, through Balchanpur and Jungle Sahiya via the Chandranigahpur-Gaur highway in Rautahat.
