64 parties submit closed proportional lists for House of Representatives polls

KATHMANDU: A total of 64 political parties have submitted their closed lists under the proportional representation system for the upcoming House of Representatives elections.

The Election Commission had scheduled December 28 and 29 for the submission of closed proportional lists at the office of the proportional system election officer at the Commission’s Bahadur Bhawan office.

According to Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, the lists were submitted late Monday night and into Tuesday morning by 64 political parties.

For 110 seats under the proportional representation system, the closed lists include the names of around 3,424 candidates from the 64 parties. Of the parties that submitted lists, 54 have fielded candidates under their own election symbols, while 10 parties have submitted candidates under shared election symbols.

The submission process continued late into the night as several parties were engaged in last-minute unity and electoral cooperation agreements.

A total of 93 political parties had applied to contest the House of Representatives election under the proportional representation system.

The Election Commission said verification of the submitted closed lists will be conducted from December 30 to January 4. If any corrections are required or documents are found missing, parties will be given time from January 5 to 11 to make necessary amendments.

The revised lists will be reviewed from January 12 to 17, and the final closed proportional list is scheduled to be published on February 3.
