LPG tanker accident blocks East–West Highway in Rautahat

RAUTAHAT: The East–West Highway has been obstructed after an LPG tanker met with an accident near Lamaha Bridge along the Chandranigahapur–Dhansar road section in Rautahat on Tuesday morning.

The tanker, bearing registration number UP 17 AT 2114, was carrying LPG from Raxaul, India, to Mahendranagar in Dhanusha when the accident occurred.

The driver, identified as 35-year-old Pawan Yadav of Jaynagar police station area in Kadoura district, India, sustained injuries in the accident. He is currently undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital in Chandranigahapur, according to Rajendra Thapamagar, chief of the District Traffic Police Office, Rautahat.

Traffic from the eastern side has been halted near the District Traffic Police Office in Chandranigahapur, while vehicles coming from the west have been stopped near Dhansar Bridge, Thapamagar said.

The tanker remains stranded in the middle of the highway, causing a complete road blockage. Gas leakage from the tanker has also increased the risk of further accidents in the area.

A technical team from a gas company in Janakpur is on its way to recover the tanker and manage the situation, traffic police said.
