NC General Secretary Thapa boycotts central committee meeting

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa boycotted the ongoing central committee meeting on Thursday.

Thapa had planned to present the schedule for the party’s general convention. However, the acting party president, Purna Bahadur Khadka, was not prepared for it, prompting Thapa to leave the meeting.

Before the meeting, Khadka, Thapa, and another General Secretary, Bishwprakash Sharma, held discussions. Thapa informed Khadka that he was ready to present the convention schedule. Khadka, however, felt it was not the right time and suggested waiting a couple of days, leading Thapa to exit the central office premises.

In Congress practice, a General Secretary presents the agenda only after receiving the president’s approval. Thapa had previously proposed holding the regular general convention from Mangsir 27–29. If the schedule could not be met, he advocated for setting a date for a special convention. Over 54% of delegates have already signed in favor of a special convention, submitting a formal request to Khadka on Ashoj 29.
