Nagarik Unmukti Party officially splits, Resham Chaudhary registers new party

KATHMANDU: Resham Chaudhary and several leaders have formally split from the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) and reached the Election Commission to register a new political party named Nagarik Unmukti Party, Nepal.

Chaudhary, accompanied by Abdul Khan and other leaders dressed in identical outfits, arrived at the Commission on Thursday to complete the registration process. The group has proposed Janto (traditional grinder) as their election symbol, with Kabir Sop designated as the party’s chair.

According to the leaders, the new party will include dissatisfied members from both the Nagarik Unmukti Party and the Janamat Party.

Abdul Khan, who had served as a minister representing the Janamat Party, had resigned from his party about a month ago.

Meanwhile, Chaudhary had reportedly intended to part ways with NUP for about a year due to personal and internal disputes. He officially announced his departure following the Gen-Z movement held on September 8 and 9.
