Health Ministry preparing to relocate to Singha Durbar

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population is preparing to relocate to Singha Durbar, the main administrative complex of the government.

According to the ministry’s spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, temporary prefabricated (prefab) buildings are being constructed on the vacant land of the Nepal Army Nursing Battalion, located in the southwestern section of Singha Durbar.

“The Nepal Army has shifted to its own new building on the northern side, and six prefab buildings are now being built on the vacated land,” Dr. Budhathoki said. “The remaining structures are being painted and carpeted for use.”

He added that the new structures are expected to be ready within two weeks, and the ministry will likely move into Singha Durbar by November 17.

Dr. Budhathoki further mentioned that the ministry plans to permanently settle inside Singha Durbar once the new parliamentary building is completed and the current Parliament Secretariat building becomes available.

The ministry’s building at Ramshahpath was destroyed in a fire caused by the Gen-Z movement’s protest on September 9. Since then, the Health Ministry has been operating from the new building of the Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC) located behind its former premises.
