NC holding Central Working Committee meeting today

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting is being held today at the party’s central office, BP Smriti Bhawan, Lalitpur, starting at 1 p.m.

The meeting, which began on October 14, has been focusing on the political situation that developed after the Gen Z protests on September 8 and 9, the formation of the interim government, the dissolution of the House of Representatives, and the role of the party in the changing context.

Today’s meeting is expected to focus primarily on the agenda of the party’s 15th General Convention. The term of the Working Committee, currently led by party President Sher Bahadur Deuba, is set to complete in December. In this context, discussions have been ongoing on whether or not to hold the party’s regular general convention.

Some leaders had launched a signature campaign among general convention delegates, demanding a special general convention in the absence of a regular one. It is reported that 54 percent of the delegates signed the petition calling for a special general convention.

Earlier, in the meeting, party president Deuba had assigned the responsibility of acting president to Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, citing health reasons. Since then, the Working Committee meetings have been held under Khadka’s chairmanship.
