Prachanda: After festivals, we will intensify protests in streets and parliament

KATHMANDU: Chair of the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ has announced that after the festival season, the party will launch intensified protests focusing on both the streets and the parliament.

Speaking at a seminar on the status of Dalit rights in Nepal, policy development, and implementation challenges held at the party office in Paris Danda on Saturday, Prachanda said all opposition parties would unite to intensify the movement after the festivals.

He criticized the Congress-UML government for promoting corruption under the guise of good governance and interfering in lawmaking, stating that a strong protest is now necessary. Prachanda also noted that when the state undertakes reforms and anti-corruption campaigns, the government must be challenged if it obstructs such initiatives.

Highlighting misuse of the two-thirds majority by the government to protect corrupt individuals, exact political revenge, and influence the judiciary, Prachanda said street, parliamentary, and governmental interventions are the only options left.

He further pointed out that within the party, there are two tendencies and perspectives regarding the oppression of Dalits.
