NC leader stresses economic reform to meet health workers’ demands

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Vice President Dhanraj Gurung has stressed that strengthening the national economy is key to fulfilling the demands of doctors.

Speaking at a seminar themed “Unified Steps for Health Services, Party Leadership, and National Progress” organized in Kathmandu on Friday to mark the annual assembly of the Democratic Doctors’ Association, Gurung said the government must take doctors’ concerns about service benefits seriously.

“Improving service facilities is directly linked to the economy. There are many sectors through which we can boost economic growth. Let’s move in that direction so that we can also enhance doctors’ benefits,” he said.

Gurung further argued that expanding the tax net, including levying taxes on domestic alcohol products, could generate an additional Rs 600 billion in the national budget. He added that despite repeated efforts during his tenure as law minister, he was unable to push such laws through.
