PM Oli leaves for China on five-day official visit

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli left for China today on a five-day official visit, scheduled from August 30 to September 3, 2025, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the visit, Prime Minister Oli is set to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tianjin, where he will also address the SCO Summit on September 1.

In addition to attending the summit, PM Oli is expected to hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin; Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Republic of Maldives; Dr. Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia; Sonexay Siphandone, Prime Minister of Laos; and Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of Vietnam.

The Foreign Ministry stated that Prime Minister Oli will also hold sideline meetings with other participating leaders during the summit. Following the conference, he will travel to Beijing, where he is scheduled to meet Chinese Vice President Han Zheng on September 2.

Although there was speculation about a possible meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, PM Oli did not mention it during his recent address to Parliament.

During his stay, the Prime Minister will also take part in a program commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. He is scheduled to return to Nepal on September 3.
