PM Oli leaving for China today



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli is leaving for China today on a five-day official visit. Addressing Friday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Prime Minister Oli informed that his visit will take place from August 30 to September 3, 2025.

During his visit, PM Oli is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tianjin, where he will also address the SCO Summit on September 1.

According to PM Oli, he is also scheduled to hold meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other heads of state, including Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Republic of Maldives; Dr. Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia; Sonexay Siphandone, Prime Minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic; Pham Minh Chinh, and Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that Prime Minister Oli will hold sideline meetings with world leaders during the conference. Following the summit, he will travel to Beijing, where he is scheduled to meet Chinese Vice President Han Zheng on September 2.

While there had been speculation about a possible meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, PM Oli did not mention it during his address to Parliament.

During his stay, PM Oli will also participate in a program marking the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, according to the Foreign Ministry. He is scheduled to return to Nepal on September 3.
