UML issues whip to support Sudurpaschim CM Shah in confidence vote

DHANGADHI: The CPN-UML has issued a whip to its provincial assembly members in Sudurpaschim Province to support Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah in an upcoming vote of confidence.

The decision was made during the UML’s provincial parliamentary party meeting held on Wednesday. UML parliamentary party leader Rajendra Singh Rawal stated that all party members have been instructed to be present and vote in favor of the Chief Minister during the assembly session scheduled for Thursday at 5 PM.

CM Shah is seeking a vote of confidence after dismissing Ramashwar Chaudhary, the Minister for Industry, Tourism, Forests and Environment, who represented the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP). Following the dismissal, the NUP withdrew its support from the government, prompting the Chief Minister to seek a renewed mandate.

Earlier this week, the Nepali Congress parliamentary party had also issued a whip in support of CM Shah.

The Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly currently has 52 members (excluding one suspended). To secure the confidence vote, CM Shah requires the support of at least 27 members. He currently has the backing of 29 members—11 from UML and 18 from the Nepali Congress.

In opposition are 22 members: 10 from the CPN (Maoist Centre) excluding the Speaker, 7 from the NUP, 3 from CPN (Unified Socialist), and one each from Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and an independent member.
