KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala on Monday questioned party president Sher Bahadur Deuba about the decision to let the CPN-UML lead the government last year.
Speaking at the central working committee meeting that began at the party’s central office in Sanepa, Koirala said, “I was among those who supported the idea of a Congress-UML coalition, but I had insisted that Congress should lead the government. Why then did Congress hand over the leadership to UML?”
Koirala also asked Deuba for an update on the progress made regarding constitutional amendments, as stated in the seven-point agreement signed with UML on Asar 17, 2081.
“If this alliance was formed to amend the constitution, where has that agenda reached?” Koirala questioned. “The party president must give a convincing answer.”
He further pressed for clarification on why the party formed an alliance with the Maoist Centre during the 2079 federal and provincial elections, only to join hands with UML later. “What was the reason for aligning with the Maoists then, and what is the reason for working with UML now?” he asked.
