Continuous rainfall floods several areas in Dhangadhi

DHANGADHI: Heavy rainfall since last night has caused flooding in several parts of Dhangadhi, submerging roads, shops, and residential areas across the city and its vicinity.

Areas including Bishalnagar, Milan Chowk, Shivanagar, Hasanpur, Campus Road, Malika Tole, Krishnanagar, Purano Bhansar, and the southern settlement of Katan village have been severely affected, with floodwaters entering shops and homes.

Residents reported that overflowing drains and poor sewage management have made it difficult for people to walk through the streets.

The situation is worsened by the presence of outdated and unmanaged drainage systems. Locals say that this recurring problem during the monsoon season stems from a lack of proper urban planning.

“The unplanned blacktopping of roads without proper drainage systems has led to regular flooding of residential areas,” said community leader Shivraj Joshi.

Ward Chair of Ward No. 2, Dharma Raj Ojha, noted that the destruction and encroachment of natural streams and drainage channels have significantly contributed to the recurring floods.

Despite the inundation across many parts of Dhangadhi, the District Police Office in Kailali confirmed that no human casualties or significant physical damage have been reported so far.
