Shankar Pokharel instructs ANNFSU to enforce age limit for candidates

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has issued a directive to enforce a maximum age limit of 32 years for candidates at the 24th general convention of the All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU).

General Secretary Shankar Pokharel sent a circular to ANNFSU in-charge Kishor Bikram Malla instructing him to implement the age restriction for the convention scheduled from June 8.

Malla confirmed the circular was received on Friday and stated that the age rule will be applied in the upcoming event.

The UML Secretariat had made the decision to enforce the age limit during its meeting on May 25.

According to the circular, “Only representatives who have not reached the age of 32 will be eligible to contest for office bearer and member positions, in accordance with the organization’s statute. Those elected will serve until the next general convention.”

The circular also directs that relevant changes be made in ANNFSU’s statute to ensure the age rule applies to all levels of the organization.

Previously, both the Nepal Students’ Union and ANNFSU (Revolutionary) had adopted the 32-year age cap.

UML has also set age limits for its other youth wings: 40 years for the National Youth Union and 28 years for elections within the Independent Students’ Union (SSU).

The ANNFSU general convention is scheduled to take place in Kathmandu from June 8-10, 2025.
