KATHMANDU: The 11th Nepal Amateur Open Golf Championship is set to kick off on Tuesday at Gokarna Golf Club in Kathmandu.

Organized by the Nepal Golf Association, the three-day event will run through Thursday.

The 54-hole tournament will feature golfers from Nepal and five other South Asian countries, including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and India, according to the organizers at a press conference held on Friday.

Nepal’s Team A will include Sadbhav Acharya and Rahul BK, while selection for Team B is yet to be finalized.

The championship will include both individual and team events in the men’s category.

In the team event, two players from each participating state or country will compete, and the winner will be determined based on the combined score after 36 holes. Host nation Nepal will field two teams.

A cut will be applied after 36 holes in the men’s individual event, with 60 percent of the participants advancing to the final 18 holes.

The women’s competition will feature players from Nepal and India. A total of 45 men and 10 women are expected to compete, with the organizers anticipating a slight increase as registration remains open until Sunday.

This tournament is recognized by the World Amateur Golf Ranking, and all participants will earn ranking points.
