Speaker Ghimire initiates talks to resume obstructed HoR session

KATHMANDU: Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dev Raj Ghimire, has begun consultations in an effort to create a conducive environment for resuming the obstructed parliamentary proceedings.

According to the Speaker’s Secretariat, Ghimire has called a meeting with chief whips and whips of parties represented in the House of Representatives on Friday at 11 am. Following that, he has also scheduled a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee at 12 noon.

The House has remained disrupted after opposition parties demanded the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak over the recent controversy related to visit visas. Although the parties had allowed the budget presentation to proceed, they continued to obstruct other parliamentary proceedings.

In response, Speaker Ghimire has taken the initiative to mediate and seek consensus among the parties to ensure the smooth functioning of the House.
