Janamat and Nagarik Unmukti parties to merge today

KATHMANDU: The Janamat Party and Nagarik Unmukti Party are set to formally announce their merger today (Wednesday). The unification event is scheduled for 11 AM at Nepal Academy, Kamaladi in Kathmandu.

Following the merger, the new party will be named the Nagarik Janamat Party.

Resham Chaudhary of the Nagarik Unmukti Party will serve as the party’s patron, Janamat Party’s CK Raut will assume the role of President, and Ranjita Shrestha of Nagarik Unmukti will be the Co-President. The party’s election symbol will be the Dhakiya (traditional basket).

As per the agreement, the party leadership will follow a seniority order of Chaudhary, Raut, and Shrestha.

The new structure will include a 25-member central office bearer team, a 51-member central working committee, and a minimum of 700 central committee members—350 from each party.

Post-merger, the unified party will have 10 representatives in the House of Representatives—six from Janamat and four from Nagarik Unmukti.

Party leaders have expressed confidence that the unification will strengthen their political presence, particularly in the Madhesh and Tharuhat regions.
