KATHMANDU: The Tri-Nation Women’s T20 International cricket series kicks off today in Kathmandu.
The first match, scheduled for 12:15 pm at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, will see Nepal face off against the Netherlands.
This will be the first-ever encounter between Nepal and the Netherlands in women’s T20 cricket.
The Netherlands is ranked 16th, while Nepal holds the 20th spot in the ICC rankings. Thailand, the third team in the series, is ranked 13th.
The Nepali squad includes captain Indu Barma, Rubina Chhetri, Sita Rana Magar, Pooja Mahato, Bindu Rawal, Revati Dhami, Kabita Kunwar, Samjhana Khadka, Mamata Chaudhary, Rajmati Airi, Kabita Joshi, Alisa Kumari Yadav, Roma Thapa, Manisha Upadhyay, and Ishwari Bista.
Both Netherlands captain Babette de Leede and Thailand captain Narumol Chaiwai have expressed their determination to win the series.
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has already named a 15-member Nepali squad under the leadership of Indu Burma for the competition.
Captain Burma emphasized the significance of the series and expressed confidence in her team’s chances.
She noted that Nepal’s squad is well-balanced and that they are poised to deliver strong performances. The series will run until Magh 25.
