Unity agreement reached with Kulman: Ujyalo Nepal to merge into Rastriya Swatantra Party

KATHMANDU: The Ujyalo Nepal Party, led by Kulman Ghising, is set to merge with the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) led by Rabi Lamichhane.

The agreement was reached during a meeting on Monday evening in Kamalpokhari between Kulman, Rabi, and Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Sah. The discussion was facilitated by Gen-Z activist Sudhan Gurung.

Following the merger, the proportional representation (PR) candidate list will be adjusted according to the unity agreement before being submitted to the Election Commission.

Kulman had previously claimed a possible prime ministerial role after the March 5 election. However, he recently demanded second priority within RSP along with a 25% share of party representation.

The details of the final agreement have not been fully disclosed, but Sudhan Gurung publicly confirmed that a consensus has been reached. After finalizing the signatures, the PR list will be submitted to the Election Commission.

Following the agreement, RSP Vice-Chair DP Aryal and Ujyalo Nepal Chair Anup Upadhyay, among other party leaders, joined the meeting in Kamalpokhari. Gurung highlighted that the merger represents a step forward for national unity and political consolidation.
