Former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak to hold press conference on Gen-Z movement today

KATHMANDU: Former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, who resigned following the Gen-Z movement on September 8 and 9, is set to hold a press conference on Monday afternoon.

Lekhak, a senior and influential central committee member of the Nepali Congress, will address the media from the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party office, where he is expected to publicly present his position on the Gen-Z movement and the events surrounding it.

Lekhak had tendered his resignation on September 8, citing moral responsibility after damage to life and property occurred during the protests. On the following day, September 9, incidents of vandalism and arson targeting public and private property were reported in Kathmandu and other major cities across the country.

“Leader Lekhak is scheduled to appear before the investigation commission today to provide information regarding the incident,” said his personal secretary Janak Bhatta. “Immediately after that, he will make a detailed public statement from the parliamentary party office.”

Lekhak had earlier informed the media that he would cooperate fully with the investigation commission probing the Gen-Z movement-related violence. Since the movement, he has been playing a moderate role in internal discussions within the Nepali Congress, particularly on the issue of the party’s general convention.

During the Gen-Z movement, three private residences belonging to Lekhak, two in Kathmandu and one in Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur, were vandalized and set on fire following alleged infiltration during the protests.
