Petroleum imports worth Rs 54.12 billion enter Nepal via Birgunj in four months



KATHMANDU: Nepal imported petroleum products worth Rs 54.12 billion through the Birgunj border point in the first four months of the current fiscal year.

According to the Birgunj Customs Office, the imports include diesel, petrol, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), aviation turbine fuel (ATF), and kerosene. The government collected Rs 22.90 billion in revenue from these imports.

Compared to the same period last fiscal year, imports of the five petroleum products increased by Rs 2.93 billion. In the first four months of the previous fiscal year, petroleum imports worth Rs 51.19 billion had generated Rs 20.89 billion in revenue.

Birgunj Customs Chief Administrator Bishnu Prasad Gyawali said petroleum imports have increased slightly this year. “Revenue from petroleum imports has increased by 9.60 percent compared to the same period last fiscal year,” he said.

As of the end of Kartik in the current fiscal year, Nepal imported 268,676 kiloliters of diesel worth Rs 24.40 billion through Birgunj. Diesel imports generated Rs 10.73 billion in revenue. In the same period last year, diesel imports stood at Rs 21.83 billion, generating Rs 9.78 billion in revenue.

Similarly, Nepal imported 166,663 kiloliters of petrol worth Rs 14.27 billion in the first four months of the ongoing fiscal year. Petrol imports generated Rs 9.43 billion in revenue. In the same period last year, petrol worth Rs 12.43 billion had generated Rs 8.11 billion in revenue.

During the review period, LPG imports amounted to 973.96 million kilograms, valued at Rs 9.77 billion, generating Rs 1.83 billion in revenue. In the same period last fiscal year, Nepal imported 1.003 billion kilograms of LPG worth Rs 11.10 billion, which generated Rs 2.08 billion in revenue.
