Nawalpur gets green light for jeep safari in Chitwan National Park

NAWALPUR: Jeep safaris from Nawalpur (Bardaghat Susta East) to Chitwan National Park have officially received permission, raising hopes among local tourism operators for increased tourist activity and business growth.

The Chitwan National Park office granted the Nawalpur Tourism Committee approval to operate “Jungle Drive” jeep safaris for the fiscal year 2025/26. “This authorization will further boost tourist visits,” said Funsram Mahato, chairman of the Nawalpur Tourism Committee.

Under the agreement between the park and the committee, tourists can explore the park either through half-day or full-day jeep safari routes. The half-day safari will cover Amaltari Ghat to Temple Tiger–Munda Tal–Devital and back via the same route, or Amaltari Ghat–Munda Tal–Tiger Tops and return.

Full-day safari routes are limited to those visiting the Gharial Breeding Center. Mahato added that seven vehicles have been approved for the Nawalpur-park route, and the details of the vehicles to be used have also been cleared by the park authorities.

The park has mandated the installation of a GPS-based Vehicle Tracking and Monitoring System in all safari vehicles. “Following the park’s instructions, GPS devices will be installed in the vehicles by December 1,” Mahato said.

Tourists taking the jeep safari from Nawalpur will also experience boating on the Narayani River at Amaltari Ghat to cross into the park area. Approved vehicles will remain in the park area across the river.

Local tourism operator Dhaniram Gurau highlighted that the Nawalpur route passes through community forests ideal for rhino spotting. “With jeep safaris now entering the park via Amaltari, tourism activity is expected to increase significantly,” he said. Gurau also noted that this initiative will promote tourism, boost economic activity, and create employment opportunities for locals.
