Eighteen people infected with dengue in Baitadi

BAITADI: Dengue cases are on the rise in Baitadi, with 18 infections confirmed in the past three months, according to the District Health Office.

Lab Technician Inspector Jay Singh Badal informed that the cases have been detected across four municipalities.

Of the total, eight cases were reported in Melauli Municipality, six in Dasharathchand, three in Purchaudi, and one in Patan Municipality. No infections have been reported from other local levels in the district. Last year, 106 people were confirmed to have contracted dengue in Baitadi.

To curb the spread, the Health Office has launched a mosquito larvae search and destruction campaign across the district. Chief of the Health Office Tirtha Raj Bhatta urged the public to take preventive measures and avoid mosquito bites, noting that dengue is transmitted through the bite of infected female Aedes mosquitoes.

Health experts say dengue symptoms include high fever, headache, joint and muscle pain, and loss of appetite, while severe cases may involve bleeding from the nose, gums, or stomach.

The Health Office has advised people showing such symptoms to seek immediate testing and avoid taking medication without diagnosis, warning that self-medication could worsen the condition.
