Fulpati: Seventh day of Dashain being observed today

KATHMANDU: The seventh day of the Bada Dashain festival, known as Fulpati, is being observed across the country today, with people bringing auspicious items into their homes to mark the occasion.

Fulpati—an arrangement of sacred flowers, leaves, and fruits—is ceremoniously placed in the Dashain Ghar (worship room) on this day.

In Kathmandu, the Fulpati is brought to Hanumandhoka Durbar from Jamal in a traditional procession conducted according to Vedic rituals. The procession includes the Gurujyuko platoon of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, high-ranking officials from the Armed Police Force and civil service, along with the Asha Gurja team, traditional ‘panchebaja’ music, band performances, and elaborately decorated ‘kalsyoulis’ (auspicious vessels).

According to the Nepal Panchanga Nirnayak Samiti (Nepal Calendar Determination Committee), there is no fixed auspicious hour (muhurat) required for bringing Fulpati into homes.

While Dashain officially begins with Ghatasthapana, the festival gains full momentum starting from the day of Fulpati. As celebrations intensify, government and private offices close, allowing people to return to their ancestral homes to receive blessings from Goddess Durga Bhawani and their elders.
