Royalist rally kicks off from Sifal, heads to Ratnapark

KATHMANDU: A royalist rally demanding the restoration of monarchy and a Hindu state began from Sifal on Thursday, as part of a broader movement centered in Kathmandu.

The rally, led by Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP-Nepal) chair Kamal Thapa and Joint People’s Movement Committee coordinator Nawaraj Subedi, proceeded towards Ratnapark, where a mass gathering has been planned at Shanti Vatika. The demonstration is part of a coordinated effort by over 45 royalist and pro-Hindu organizations, united under the Joint People’s Movement Committee.

Organizers have announced their intention to continue protests from Ratnapark, which they have declared the center of their ongoing movement. Protesters were urged to arrive with umbrellas as a symbolic gesture, and to participate peacefully.

The rally calls for the reinstatement of the monarchy, reestablishment of Nepal as a Hindu nation, and the abolition of the federal system. Organizers claim the current governance model has failed to address national identity and public expectations.

Leaders, including Kamal Thapa, RPP Chair Rajendra Lingden, and Nawaraj Subedi are scheduled to address the mass gathering. They argue that the country’s current political system has led to widespread disillusionment and that change is now “a national necessity.”
