Pro-monarchy forces to stage Kathmandu-centric protest from today

KATHMANDU: Various royalist parties and organizations under the leadership of the ‘Joint People’s Movement Committee for the Restoration of Monarchy’ are set to launch a Kathmandu-centric protest starting today.

Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), RPP-Nepal, and 45 other Hindu and pro-monarchy organizations plan to begin their demonstration from Shanti Batika in Ratna Park after 2 p.m. on Thursday, coinciding with Republic Day.

Earlier in the day, the CPN-UML is scheduled to hold a separate event in the same area. The royalist protest will commence after the UML program concludes.

The royalist alliance has declared that the protest will continue until the monarchy and Hindu nation are reinstated and the current republican system is abolished.

RPP spokesperson Mohan Shrestha stated that the protest will be peaceful and added that around 2,000 volunteers will be mobilized to manage the event. Participants have been encouraged to carry umbrellas.
